The Cartoon Series No One Should Compare

the last airbender
Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender, aired for 3 seasons from 2005- 2008 and in 2012 we were introduced to the female Avatar, Korra. Her dusky hued skin and bright blue eyes and toned arms have won some fans.

But not all.

But if you visit YouTube, you will find these kinds of comments:

“The Legend of Korra sucks.”

“Why do people hate this cartoon so much?”

“I miss Aang and his journey!”

the legend of korra
2.  The Legend of Korra: Book 2- Spirits

Here are some reasons why you should never compare these two and I promise your experience of The Legend of Korra will be that much more pleasant.

I love and miss Aang’s journey, just like the next person. He was a 12 year old boy learning to master all of the elements and even his crew included tough female fighters(Katara and Toph anyone?)

Now we have Korra who has just a bit more sass than Aang did. He was playful and she is more like a tomboy, so she is running around rough with the guys and gals, kick butt and must still be respected.

Aang was the “boy in the iceberg”, so the series kicked off great with this mysterious airbender who was also the Avatar. We fell in love instantly.

Now we have Korra. Her show kicks off with her knowing all of the elements except one: air.

Again we all love Aang but Korra had to be different or the creators will simply be rehashing the storyline.

The Last Airbender seems to have taken place in really ancient times(does anyone know when?). However Korra takes place seventy years after Aang’s time and reminds you of the Roaring 20s.

Given those facts, of course there will be vehicles and less fly by air journeys(I could be wrong though, we will see).

In both series, there are still “love connections”.

In Airbender, Aang loved Katara and Zuku loved Mei, Sokka liked Suki.

In The Legend of Korra, Mako is her eye candy. I have only watched season 1 so I am hoping for more romantic pairings.

Still not convinced you should not be comparing the two?

We have our own opinions and the Last Airbender will always hold a special place in my heart, I still watch it over and over. However, The Legend of Korra is refreshingly different and I believe will only get better and better.

What other comparisons and contrasts you have made for the Avatar series?
