Review: ‘If It Rains Pancakes’ by Brian P. Cleary

If It Rains Pancakes

In keeping with the Poetry Month theme, I would like to introduce a fun 32-page book “If it Rains Pancakes” by Brian P. Cleary illustrated by Andy Rowland.

If you have children, this is a fun book to introduce  haiku and lanterns. Don’t know what a haiku is? Try this hub on A Simple Haiku Writing Formula(basically it is a Japanese three line poem) A lantern is…well, read the book to find out.

The poetry is fresh, witty, and fun and many of the poems will resonate with your child very well-I highly recommend reading it together as a family. Even better: try to come up with haiku and lanterns yourself!

The book is broken down into two parts: haiku poems and lanterns. The haiku poetry is accompanied by colorful, pertinent pictures featuring nature, children, food-whatever. Same with the lantern poems. These will put you in a good mood.
