My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My full review can be seen on Examiner.com.

For now I just want to languish in the moments I had with Mace, Vine, and Raven as they dutifully rescue Nikki Youngblood from hounds of hell…and from herself.Yet one of them falls for her…hard. The story is packed with so much tension, action, and sensitvity that I got lost in the book for hours, almost skipping meals.

Heather Burch, I believe, knows the heart and minds of the young adult. There are moments when Nikki Youngblood believes in herself and the gifts she has yet she wants everyone to see through the cracks of her existence, past the “open gate of invitation” and into that raw area no one can really see. Even Raven- the “bad boy” halfling see this part of her and finds himself growing attached to the human girl.

Another plus for this book is that Youngblood is no damsel in distress. She knows six years worth of karate and she wants to fight and not be called a chicken and I think that’s why the halflings admire her. Be warned though: These halflings which look like Abercrombie models have heart and you will enjoy this book as I did.

I am ready for Book 2!
